Breaking : Barcelona want to sign a ‘star’ to compete in Europe
Barcelona saw their best hopes of finishing the season with a trophy come to an end this past Thursday when they were eliminated from the UEFA Europa League by Eintracht Frankfurt.
The defeat not only botched the club’s trophy ambitions but also delivered a financial blow to the Catalan outfit.
Having suffered a setback in both the Champions League and Europa League, Barcelona are keen on avoiding a similar fate in the upcoming campaigns.
And, in order to ensure that, the Catalan giants are planning to make a ‘star’ signing in the summer transfer window, reports SPORT.
The report states that Barça feel that they need a proper leader in the squad who can guide the team through games like the one against Frankfurt this past Friday. And that is what they will be looking for in the market – a star marquee signing.
There have already been links to superstars like Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland, either of whom can come in and revitalise the team.
At the same time, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has also been strongly linked. While he would not necessarily be a marquee addition, the Spaniard is a proper leader and can add great value to the team with his attitude, know-how and experience.
Barcelona have made a lot of progress under Xavi Hernandez. But there is still something missing in the team that can take them to the next level.
So, a ‘star’ signing who can lead the team from the front by example is something that the Blaugrana are looking at ahead of the summer window. As to who they bring in, only time will tell. But it goes without saying that the upcoming transfer window will be a crucial one for the club.
