Aston Villa should sign Philippe Coutinho on a permanent deal in the summer according to former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy. The Brazilian is currently on loan at Villa Park but is likely to be sold by parent club Barcelona in the summer; after seemingly becoming surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp.
Coutinho arrived in January and made an instant impact on his debut, scoring as well as providing an assist for Jacob Ramsay during the 2-2 draw with Manchester United. However, after an impressive start to life in the Midlands the 30-year-old’s form has been questioned in recent weeks.
The Villa playmaker hasn’t scored or assisted in his last six games raising questions as to whether the club should sign him in the summer. Coutinho showed glimpses that he’s getting back to his best during the 2-0 win over Norwich on Saturday, and Murphy believes that Villa should still pursue a permanent transfer for the former Liverpool star
I think he’s struggled a bit recently and there’s reasons for that,” Murphy said whilst discussing Villa’s win over Norwich on Match of the Day.
