Lil Durk has announced the release date of his new album 7220, which will see him face off against Kanye West’s highly anticipated Donda 2.
The Chicago rapper first announced 7220 last year, but he finally confirmed its release date on Twitter in the early hours of Monday (Feb. 7). “My album drop same day as YE 2/22/22,” he tweeted. Durk was one of the many collaborators on Kanye’s Donda album, appearing alongside Vory on “Jonah.”
7220 (pronounced seven, two, two, oh) is the seventh studio album from Chicago native, Lil Durk. It follows up on his collaborative album with Lil Baby, The Voice of the Heroes (Jun. 2020), and his sixth studio album The Voice (Dec. 24, 2020) and it’s deluxe (Jan. 29, 2021).
The album name could refer to the book “7220” by Lashawnda Woodward otherwise known as Lil Durk’s birth mother. The book sheds light on how to strengthen family relationships and how to overcome obstacles which Lil Durk has had to do many times.
On January 12, 2022, prior to the album’s official announcement, Lil Durk announced the albums, 7220 Tour, a tour placed across the whole of the US beginning in April 2022 and ending in May 2022 in his hometown, Chicago.
On January 31, 2022, Durk posted on his Instagram confirming the completion of the album and its key inspiration. He captioned:

Later that night, DJ Bandz, Lil Durk’s official DJ posted an Instagram picture with Durk while writing what looks to be a tracklist which ended in the number twenty. In the post, he captioned:

On the night of February 6, 2022, Durk had taken to Instagram to promote unreleased 7220 merchandise while captioning:

Later that night o February 7, Durk had officially announced the release date of the album via Instagram while captioning:

On the night of the release, despite not releasing a cover art or a tracklist, Durk announced a diss song directed at YoungBoy Never Broke Again and his affiliates regarding the death of his longtime friend and signee, King Von, titled “AHHH HA”. Twenty minutes prior to the official release, Durk set the music video to premiere at midnight on his official YouTube channel.
On February 22 with the release of the third single, “AHHH HA,” the album was delayed until March 11, 2022. With the release of “AHHH HA,” Durk also released an official pre-order link while also making official 7220 merchandise available for pre-order.
